Houston, TX (PRWeb) February 26, 2007 — Known as the “MX and BMX Doc,” Dr. Mark Sanders has become a vital “pit stop” for injured action sports athletes from across the United States — with Top Pro30 Racing great and top ranked MX World and AMA Motocross Championship rider Jeff Dement among the most recent.
Dement, who recently injured his thumb during the Houston leg of the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross series, underwent surgery to repair both collateral ligaments in the thumb just days later and is back on his training schedule planning to compete again in only eight weeks.
With action sports heating up, so too is the schedule of Dr. Mark Sanders of Sanders Clinic for Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. Just one week before Dement’s accident, Australia native and BMX pro Warwick Stevenson made a detour to have Dr. Sanders repair a severe distal radius fracture he sustained from a crash during the ABA Sooner Nationals in Oklahoma.
Both athletes, who received treatment from Dr. Sanders for other injuries in the past, are back to training and preparing for their next event.
“Recovery has been great. Dr. Sanders isn’t just a doctor, he’s a real person — and he understands that you need to get back out there. It’s our well-being and our life. It’s how we put food on the table. His treatment and approach have made me stronger than ever,” said Warwick Stevenson.
A longtime motocross rider and cyclist himself, Dr. Sanders has continued to capture the attention of young athletes unable … and unwilling to sit out of competition. His immediate mobility approach to injury is the cornerstone of his practice — and the biggest difference between traditional medicine and that which patients receive at Sanders Clinic. “It’s hard to go against what you’ve heard so often in the past, but when you see the difference between immediately moving your injured limb and long periods of immobilization, you recognize there’s no other way for an athlete,” said Jeff Dement.
“Dr. Sanders repaired my shoulder during last year’s Supercross and got me back in competition in just a few weeks. There was no question that he’d be the one to repair my thumb. He’s become a key part of my success as a rider,” added Dement.
Dr. Mark Sanders is listed among H Texas Magazine’s Top Docs for both 2004 and 2005, and he is featured among the Top Texas Healthcare Professionals in the 2006 Edition of Medicine Men of Texas — Legends, Innovators and Healers. He was recently named among Health & Fitness magazine’s Phenomenal Physicians and writes a health column for BMX Today.
